This also makes SSL VPN more versatile and user friendly. The SSL VPN clients need not ask for user configuration to establish this type of network. The SSL VPN can be further divided into two categories namely SSL Portal VPN and SSL Tunnel VPN. SSL Portal VPN enables the SSL VPN clients to use one standard type of SSL connection to a web location in order to secure the access to services to multiple networks. The web link or the website that is accessed in this type of SSL VPN is called a portal leading to various other resources.

The SSL Tunnel VPN allows the SSL VPN clients to use typical web browsers in order to access the multiple network services securely. These services may include non-web based services as well which are provided through a tunnel. In the SSL Tunnel VPN network, the web browsers can handle the active content like Java, JavaScript, plug-ins, ActiveX and flash applications.
