Advantages for SSL VPN Client
<!–noadsense–>SSL VPN allows a Virtual Private Network to connect with the world-wide network, the internet. This enables the remote users to access the computer resources at different locations as locally. This remote accessibility is provided with the use of SSN protocol or Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol. Both the protocols used similar type of encryption methods. Any user with an internet connection can connect to the SSL VPN network.
The SSL VPN client is basically software that runs on a remote computer. It communicates with the server or the service provider by establishing a secure network over the internet. Using this network, the user is able to access the private network he is connected to. The remote user or the SSL VPN client first connects to the internet and then to the VPN to securely access the private network through a VPN server.
The SSL VPN client creates a secure connection with the VPN server called tunnel. This connection is established between the client computer and the private network. There are two protocols used to manage the secure connection namely IKE (Internet Key Exchange) and IPSec (Internet Protocol Security) tunneling protocols. There is various security keys managed to encrypt and decrypt the transmitted data between the private networks.
SSL VPN Client technologies
An SSL VPN client can use various technologies to create a connection to the internet. A dial up modem can be used through plain old telephone service (POTS) or integrated services digital network (ISDN). A digital subscriber line (DSL) modem or a direct LAN connection can also be used to connect to the internet.
An SSL VPN client may provide several program features. Context sensitive online help is provided. Multiple servers are supported for easy and fast connectivity. Both graphical user interface (GUI) and command line interface (CLI) are supported by some SSL VPN clients. The clients may access the resources available on the LAN connection through gateways. Event logging and NAT transparency may also be provided. The client can be enabled to launch applications, install/uninstall packages, receive update notifications, manage automatic dialup connections, initialize wireless VPN connection securely, and receive alerts and many other features.
An SSL VPN client provides authentication features like certificate authorities, management of certificates, entrusting intelligence certificates, authentication using smart cards, etc. IPSec features like key management through Internet Key Exchange (IKE) protocol, transparent tunneling, split tunneling to simultaneously direct packets across the internet and monitoring tools for notifications and reporting may also be provided.
